The Ultimate Vampire Resource and Directory

Saturday I learned that three of my friends from the legal field all passed away quite suddenly on Friday evening. To say that I am in a state of shock is putting it mildly. I spoke briefly to my friend Anne's husband to express how sorry I was for his loss, but, of course, did not ask for any details. She was 54. I am at a loss for words.

I first met Anne when she was opposing counsel. I had been practicing law for a little more than 5 minutes. Even though Anne was a tough adversary, she took the time to mentor me and help me in any way she could that would not prejudice her client. I really appreciated her kind, generous heart, and over the years we grew to be close friends, sharing more than law. When I left the practice of law, it was Anne who was the first to reach out and congratulate me (she knew I was miserable practicing). We went to lunch weekly once I returned to the office after COVID. In 2021, Anne was appointed to the bench and had just recently won her re-election. She was a wonderful judge. She was extremely knowledgeable about the law and was able to apply it in a way that was fair and equitable. She and her husband were a married couple that was truly happy. They loved to travel and be as involved in the community as possible. I cannot imagine what he is going through now.

Death has a funny way of forcing you to evaluate your life to determine what is important and what is not. I am sure that many people would not think that Vampire Rave was important and Vampire Rave itself is not. It is the people that I have met here that are important. Thank you to those of you who have reached out in my absence to check on me. You are dear to me and I really appreciate your love and concern.

It is also time for me to make some life changes, starting with getting myself back into pre-COVID shape. I know it will not be easy, but the end payoff will be worth the work.

Kopi had to have surgery on Wednesday morning. It was nothing serious, thankfully. He had a fatty lipoma on his left foot which has probably been there for about six years. Recently, it started to grow and it was starting to affect his gait. Monday, I came back from taking my mom to the doctor and he was limping pretty badly. The lipoma had become so pendulous that it was actually under his foot and he was walking on it. So it definitely had to come off. He came through the surgery wonderfully and, because he gets so nervous at the vet, they let me come and get him as soon as he was awake.

Wednesday he was pretty out of it. I am keeping him in a tent crate on my bed so I can restrict his movement. Unfortunately, because of the small space he has there isn't room to leave food and water, so I am getting up every two hours to give him a little canned food. Wednesday night wasn't bad except for the fact that I had trouble falling back asleep after the 11:30 feeding. Last night though was a different story. I was so tired, I could hardly get up, but I did. At 3:00 a.m. I was so tired I thought I might start crying. I decided that I was going to see if he would just lie down on the bed with me and sleep. I figured that there was no way that would happen. But he is older, so I thought maybe... Well, bless his fuzzy heart. He curled up right beside me and stayed there until 7:30 this morning. Four continuous hours of sleep! I am going to try letting him out again in a little bit. I just don't need him jumping and ripping anything open. The bathroom is NOT an option because he literally bangs hid head on the door and yowls loud enough to wake the dead. Poor kitty.

Anyway, that's what's new with Theo this week and why you haven't seen me around much.
